It was said that 173 LED lighting retrofit kits including LED spotlights had replaced the old illuminators and the new lighting should cut the utility bill for the mall by 60% to 65% while providing brighter lighting. LEDs provide brighter lighting and last longer, so the Park Service expects to not have to replace the bulbs for up to 25 years.
The energy-efficient lights were donated by a bulb-maker and installed for free by a local utility company from Third to 15th Streets, said by Associated Press.
