With the bigger screen on my Note it would be nice to have the arrows in portrait mode. However, adjusting key height also adjusts the key height of the arrows. I have noticed this a little bit.
I loaded my settings that I had from the tbolt so i'm not sure how many variable there are.
Have you tried messing with 'multitap interval' in General settings?

Those are the symbols on a conventional keyboard. They are there but on different areas of this keyboard. In general settings make sure you have 'show alt labels' check marked. Are you saying common words keep showing up as names?
Could you give an example?
What I do is every time I use a new name I make sure it's in my user dictionary with a long press.
Next time it's there or within a very limited list, not necessarily the chosen word.
