Dictionary not Learning New Words

Post by levimsmith »

I have the smart dictionary enabled and I installed the English dictionary, but the dictionary still won't learn anything. I am using the T9 keyboard and if I press the 4 key and space so as to start a sentence with "I" it puts a "G" in its place despite adding "I" to the dictionary. The same thing happens with simple words like "haha". I can add a word to the dictionary and immediately return to the text to type the word again and it does no good. Any suggestions?

hi,

i think this is a similar issue to what i get using compact keyboard - i have 'learn new words' turn on, but when typing new word, it isnt offered in the suggestions bar, so there is no way to add it - only way to get around this is to go to the custom word option in settings and map the word it gives you to the new word you want

cheers

I didn't notice this problem at first. It only seems to be affected when typing in a search field (google or the search on this forum). When typing an E-mail or using a notepad app the I appears to function normally.

If it's happening in a notepad app, it may be the notepad app that's doing it. Some of them will override SKP (and some other keyboards), though not often.

It happens no matter what application I am in. Its most irritating in the text message setting when using the T9 keyborad. It's disappointing to pay for a program that doesn't function as it is advertised.

hi
sorry to hear that. I agree there are some inconsistencies between the
keyboard styles. I think the dev really needs to sort out a more direct way
of logging faults like other apps. ie direct email from the market place.
think it might help speed up support process. Cyril ?

I turned off t9 and added haha manually without any problems. I think you have to do it that way if you want to add a new word to the dictionary.
As far as I becoming g, you could try using the autotext to do something like:
The following word: g
Will be replaced by: I
To force g to become I
(Unless that's what you meant when you said "added I to the dictionary")

yes I think you are correct with that.
I use compact mode and that doesn't always work
with learned or custom words. but landscape QWERTY does.
odd
